Green Sky initiative at Nanded City, Pune
An eco-supporting initiative 'Green Sky' is underway at Nanded City, 700 acre mega township on Sinhgad till Saturday.
Besides an environment oath, a plantation drive, a plant exhibition-cum-sale, a photo exhibition on nature, a poster making and essay writing competion and a walkathon have been arranged.
The World Environment Day celebrations marked the beginning of a programme for planting of 1500 saplings, 20000 shrubs and 15000 ground covers.
Under a unique concept of urban agriculture, Nanded City will be using the area along the green zone, peripheral areas as well as the three nullahs passing through, for substantial urban agriculture.
This is meant to cater to the daily needs of residents with the township. Vegetables, fruits, flowers, medicinal and aromatic plants will be grown here. Agro tourism will also be taken up where residents and outsiders can visit the area for traditional Maharashtrian food, a bullock cart ride throught the orchards or for buying the freshly harvested produce.
