Lodha Group and Philippe Starck create Bold Homes Lodha EVOQ - New Cuffe Parade, Near IMAXE Dome, Mumbai
Lodha Builders, who are known for creating landmark homes in Mumbai (think World One at Upper Worli or Lodha Costiera at Napeansea Road) have added one more landmark to their impressive portfolio. They launched their latest project, Lodha Evoq, with much fanfare.
Located at New Cuffe Parade, the 63-storey luxury tower's residences and common spaces will be designed by Philippe Starck (whom the people at Lodha Builders call 'the God of Design') and his design firm Yoo.
Spread over 15 acres, Lodha Evoq boasts exclusive designer residences with private pools and gardens and select penthouses come with personal elevators, all with interiors by yoo inspired by Starck. This is the first yoo inspired by Starck project in Mumbai.
Lodha Evoq is a tower located in the heart of the city at New Cuffe Parade, near the IMAX Dome. Lodha Evoq will boast of having the metro, monorail and eastern freeway very close to it. Being a part of New Cuffe Parade, Lodha Evoq will offer uninterrupted panoramic views of the sea and the city’s skyline, including the Bandra Worli Sea-link. Designed to include every comfort, convenience and luxury, Lodha Evoq - New Cuffe Parade will be a blend of the most refined residences, workplaces, luxury retail and leisure facilities, with over 15 acres of open spaces & recreational facilities.
Yoo for Lodha Evoq
What better way to get to know more about these opulent Lodha Evoq homes, than a talk with Starck, the man behind the design? Over coffee, while seated in one of the Oberoi-Trident's sea-facing room with panoramic views of Mumbai, we chatted with the humorous designer, who is pretty kicked about this association.
For Starck, luxury means quality. "I don't believe in the word luxury. I think many people think it means a way of showing money, and I cannot share this type of luxury. For me luxury means quality in everything. Quality of design, architecture, in humour… it is always about quality. And quality must reflect in longevity."
So of course, we'll be seeing his much-vaunted quality, as well has his bold, almost rebellious designs at Lodha Eqvo. Starck, who is known for his avant-garde designs for everything from lamps to kitchen equipment seen in hotels and even museums, says Lodha Evoq is the tallest building he has designed the interiors for.
Describing his vision for homes at the Lodha project, Starck says that when you enter a home at Lodha Evoq, you will walk past an iconoclastic living room, bedrooms with metallic-gold bathrooms, through a grand entrance lobby, a club lounge and an alfresco party venue.
He says, "I think every human in the world looks for a home. And I believe that one must design his own home. I will help you, but it is for you to decide. Most home spaces are developed from the abstract."
Yet, he doesn't design show home. Starck says, "Everyone tries to make their home look like a showroom; like what they see in magazines. You build your home for yourself, not to show people."
So what should we expect of Philippe Starck? "I think people should expect a strong design, ethic, creativity and a lot of humour and poetry from me," he says with that big grin.
The Scoop on Yoo
With an A-List designer team that includes Marcel Wanders, Jade Jagger, Kelly Hoppen and Anouska Hempel, yoo is "more about the amalgamation of development and design," says its chairman and cofounder John Hitchcox. He’s also excited about yoo’s Indian projects. "We’ve got projects in Pune, now in New Cuffe Parade, they’re all very very big projects, and each one is more than a million sqft."
