Pune Metro finally approved




After an anxious wait of more than 5 years for Punekars and several proposals turned down , the Maharashtra government has finally approved the construction of Metro Rail in Pune .This would bring relief to almost 50 Lakh people of Pune and the adjoining PCMC Area. The Maharashtra Government has approved the plan for state’s second metro rail project in Pune.

After Mumbai, Pune will also be getting Metro rail services. This news has come as a major breather for the residents as commuting will become easier for them.

Phases of Pune Metro:

According to officials, the first phase of Pune Metro line will be connecting Ramwadi-Wanaz on an elevated track. The total cost for the first phase would come up to be INR 2,593 Crore.

The second Pune Metro phase will be approximately 44 kilomtere long and it will cost INR 5,391 Crore. This second phase will be connecting Shivaji Nagar-Hinjewadi-Deccan-Bund Garden-swargate-Katraj-Pimpri & Chinchwad-Nigdi, large industrial areas.
 

A Pune Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC) will be set up which is a special purpose vehicle for the mega project. It is being said that this Metro project will be the biggest single project to be taken up in Pune, the academic and culture capital of Maharashtra.

PMC (Pune Municipal Corporation) has been appointed as the nodal agency for the build-operate-transfer (BOT) project till the set up of SPV takes place. A proposal was already submitted by the PMC to the state government in 2011 when they received a project report from Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Reportedly, this project will have contribution from the state as well as central government. Both will be contributing 20% towards the project, 10% from Pune Municipal Corporation and remaining 50% from debt-equity.





Pune Metro Rail Project : When Will It Get Completed?

The project will be completed in five years with 3 years being the time period for construction alone.
To undertake this massive project the state government has approved the creation of PMRC (Pune Metro Rail Corporation) in the lines of DMRC and  a SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) Group.
